I know that most of us are normal computer users. But do you know how the internal parts work? In this article, I will focus on the hard disk drive, HDD, the various components and how the whole unit works. The hard disk is made of platters, spindle, read/write head, actuator arm, actuator axis, actuator, IDE or SATA connector, jumper block and the power connector. The focus on this article is to actually understand how the reading and writing of information works. So, when you are using your computer and you decide to read information from it or save information to it, this is what happens:
- The actuator arm which holds the read/ write head in place and is anchored to the actuator axis moves to the sector on the platters where the reading or writing is to take place. The platters are divided into sectors where files are stored in binary form.
- After reaching the specified sector, the actuator arm lowers and the read/ write head hovers very close (nanometer length) to the platters but should not touch. If the head touches the platters, you might lose all your information. In short, any physical contact, even a very tiny particle of moisture on the platters, will cause disastrous effect to your hard disk.
- When the read/ write head has located the exact area of reading/ writing, it then proceeds to save or read information from the said sector. When writing, information is converted to binary then saved. When reading, the information is converted from binary to more logical form.
It’s that simple. So the next time you may be experiencing hard disk failure, it could be that one of this internal components are not working properly and they need to be handled with professionals. If not, you risk losing all your vital information. Such professional are data recovery experts . If your hard disk has crashed or is crashing, contact one today. Hard drives or Hard disks are the main storage devices used in every computer system to store digitally encoded information. Unlike RAM or system memory, hard drives store the data permanently. Now-a-days these hard drives are also used with various electronic devices, such as, mobile phones, PDAs, video games and audio video players.
Data on the hard disks is saved in form of binary digits (1’s and 0’s). Every hard disk contains circular platters to store the binary data. Hard drive head is used to read the binary information. A hard drive consists of various other components, such as, Spindle motor, Hard disk drive controller and Integrated Drive Electronics (IDE) Input/Output Card.
If any of these components get damaged due to any reason, then the hard drive stops working. Hard drive failure mainly occurs because of these reasons:
• Mechanical failure
• Electronic failure
• Logical failure
• Firmware corruption
The above factors provide both logical and physical damage to the hard drive. The most common misconception between the users is that once the hard drive has suffered a logical or physical damage, the data in hard drive is lost and can not be recovered. But the above statement is not true at all. The data in the hard drive remains intact and the user can recover the lost data with the help of data recovery experts and data recovery software.
Data Recovery Experts are those technicians that recover the data from a physically damaged hard drive. These technicians have sound knowledge of every kind of storage device and can recover data to the maximum.
Data recovery software is the software built by Data Recovery Company to recover data from logical crash of the hard drive. Data recovery software employ advanced scanning algorithms to recover the data.

S.M.A.R.T (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) keeps check on the internal health of the hard drive and keeps reporting warning and errors upon finding any issue. It is a monitoring system of the hard drive that checks the drive upon certain factors of reliability like heat, spin-rate noise level, damaged hard disk sectors etc. Thus we can take preventive steps like complete data backup on the basis of S.M.A.R.T reports and avoid any Data Recovery in the near future due to physical failures.
S.M.A.R.T enabled hard drives may prompt an error at each startup, similar to:
âWARNING: Immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent. S.M.A.R.T failure predicted on primary slave.â
Users are advised not to ignore this error message. The failure is impending and data must be backed up before it gets too late to be recovered through Hard Drive Recovery solution. If taken care of, such hard drives give enough time to backup data. The hard drive needs to be replaced and if the user has recent data backup, it can be restored post drive replacement and clean operating system installation.
In case user ignores this S.M.A.R.T warning, it may lead to loss of all data when the hard drive fails. The Data Recovery service is a must for those users who save valuable data of business, education or emotional importance. It is a procedural approach to extract data from physically failed hard drives. The Data Recovery experts first analyze the failed hard drives and generate a report with respect to various parameters such as cause of failure and recovery steps. The user gets this information from the recovery company and if he finds everything as per his expectations like budget, data security, time frame etc., he can go ahead with the recovery routine.
The failed hard drives are scrutinized in Clean Rooms, which are sterilized and filtered surroundings for sensitive hard drive internals. The experts carry out case specific technical procedures to extract data. It may involve read/write head replacement, intermediate hard drive repair, disk mirroring etc. All these methods are safe and performed taking plattersâ data safety into consideration. Such disk recovery is only possible if platters are intact and from those plattersâ areas where magnetic material is not damaged.
Stellar Information Systems Limited offers industryâs best service with Class 100 Clean Rooms, finest data extracting procedures and technical set of tools. Stellar is offering advanced, safe and reliable Hard Drive Recovery service from 1993. We recover data from almost all hard drive models and drive interfaces as SCSI, SATA, EIDE/ATA-2 and IDE.

The USB Pen Drive is an USB flash memory drive and can support up to 8 GB disc space. This is 5600 times more than a 1.44 MB floppy disk. A USB flash drive is a plug and play device. It is as easy as simply plugging into any USB port and the computer automatically detects it as another removable drive.
This done, it is possible to read, write, copy, delete and move data from hard disk to the pen drive and vice versa. It is also possible to play MP3 files, run applications, view videos or even take high quality digital photos directly from the pen drive.
Pen drives support flash ROM (EEPROM) for Insystem Programming. Through USB port, it is possible to change or update usb pen drive firmware anytime and anywhere. From security point of view, the pen drive can be used as a key to valuable information on the hard disk drive-without the key (the pen drive), the data is inaccessible.
The pen drive is very compact and easy to carry anywhere. It does not need any battery (for USB port), does not need any software or cables and is compatible with IBM PC /desktop and laptop computers with USB.
